Why MP3, in 2026
MP3 is a format from 1993 that everyone has been predicting the death of for twenty years, and it is still the correct default for exactly one reason. It plays on literally everything. A 2008 car stereo, a hospital radio system, a school PA, a cheap Bluetooth speaker, a Nintendo handheld, a gym treadmill with a USB port. Newer codecs are more efficient. None of them are more compatible.
The efficiency argument also matters less than it used to. AAC beats MP3 meaningfully at 96 or 128 kbps, which were the bitrates that mattered when storage was expensive and networks were slow. At 320 kbps, both formats are transparent to almost all listeners on almost all equipment, and the gap closes to something you need a controlled listening test to detect. Storage costs nothing now, so use the bitrate and stop worrying about the codec.
Where MP3 genuinely loses is at low bitrates and in files that will be re-encoded repeatedly. If you are editing audio, layering it into a video timeline, or planning to convert it again later, start from FLAC and encode once at the end.
What 320 kbps actually means
Bitrate is the most-quoted and least-explained number in this category. Here is the version that is useful when you are choosing.

Worth saying plainly: no converter can output higher quality than its source. Spotify streams at up to 320 kbps, so 320 kbps is the honest ceiling here. A site advertising "MP3 up to 1000 kbps" is either padding the file or lying about the number.
Getting the files onto the device you actually use
Car stereo via USB. Format the stick FAT32, because most head units refuse exFAT and NTFS. Put files in folders, keep the folder depth shallow, and expect a limit around 999 files per folder on older units. MP3 is the safe format, since a surprising number of head units will not play FLAC or M4A.
iPhone. Download in Safari and the file lands in the Files app under Downloads. To get it into the Music app rather than leaving it in Files, sync the folder through Finder on macOS or the Apple Devices app on Windows. Tags come across intact, so the album groups correctly.
Android. Files go to `Downloads` by default. Poweramp, Musicolet and VLC will index that folder directly. If you would rather keep music separate, move the folder to `Internal storage/Music` and most players pick it up on the next media scan.
Sonos, Plex and home servers. Point the library at the folder and let it index. This is where the tagging pays off, because Plex builds its whole interface out of tags, and untagged files show as a wall of "Unknown Artist" that no amount of manual fixing fully repairs.
Conversion questions
Is there a limit on how many conversions I can run?
No daily cap, no credits and no account to attach a limit to. Large batch jobs are queued behind small ones during busy periods so nobody's 900 track request blocks everyone else, but nothing is refused.
MP3, M4A or FLAC, which should I pick?
MP3 if the file will touch anything other than your phone. M4A if you live entirely inside Apple's ecosystem. FLAC if you are archiving, editing, or planning to re-encode later. When unsure, MP3.
Can I convert a Spotify link to WAV?
We do not offer WAV, deliberately. WAV holds no tags, takes ten times the space of MP3, and gains you nothing over FLAC, which is also lossless and does support tags. If a specific piece of software demands WAV, convert the FLAC locally in one step.
Does converting reduce quality compared to streaming?
Slightly, and unavoidably, because you are re-encoding audio that was already lossy. At 320 kbps the difference is inaudible on normal equipment. FLAC output avoids the second lossy stage entirely if that matters to you.
Why is my file smaller than I expected?
Short tracks make small files. A two minute song at 320 kbps is about 4.6 MB, which is correct. If a four minute track comes out under 5 MB, the source was lower bitrate than 320, and no converter can add back detail that was never in the stream.
